Public domain software compatibility

Using public domain software is often a challenge to yourself. You have to download/install tens of packages. Sometime these packages are not compatible; you have to find all compatible versions that run smoothly on your system.

If one of them breaks, e.g., fails to install, then you won't be able to use the software at all.

Today I tried to install DUI. The setup.exe gives me a message: FileBuffer static assert failed. That's all. I guess it is not compatible with my DMD? That doesn't make sense because it is already compiled.

If I successfully installed DUI, made a program, I will have to find out if I need packages such as Gtk+, etc., in my deployment. Another headache.

This does not mean I do not like free software. I love them and use them everyday. However, I hope they could be of high quality like firefox.

What can you say? They are free. Yet if you don't put serious effort in it, it's a waste of time of yourself and of other people.
