Is linux lack of features? Lack of packages?
Lack of security?
I would say no. If linux is to get bigger market share, the key point is none of above. I would vote for ease of use.
Linux, like any unix, is not designed for normal users. Simply put, any tools under linux need a learning curve, e.g., sed, tar, wget... Read the manual and each tool has more features than you normally use. Once you learn more about the tools, you can do more with them. That was the tradition and it is carried on. Unlike in a GUI, where you do not need to remember any parameters. Just click, click, click.
Why selinux? Isn't linux complex enough? Isn't the permission system already complex enough? Being a unix user for many years, my professor is still always struggling with the existing security systems. SELinux is not contributing to the success of the system. I would like to see how many Fedora users simply turned it off. I am one.
